Nicole Kidman was spotted on the set of her new movie, The Railway Man, wearing a short brown wig in Perth, Scotland Wednesday.

The dowdy 'do, which is a total departure from the Aussie actress' famous strawberry blonde hair, is for the actress' role alongside Colin Firth in the true story film about a Scottish second lieutenant who was captured by the Japanese in Singapore during World War II.

"This isn't just a portrait of suffering," Firth said of the drama. "It's a very, very specific story about how that kind of damage interacts with intimate relationships, with love."

A far more glamorous looking Kidman, 44, recently hit the red carpet at the Academy of Country Music Awards with husband Keith Urban.
