COULD Nicole Kidman be planning a move home on a more permanent basis?

Days after acquiring a third apartment inside the building she calls her Sydney base (with an eye to creating a super-penthouse) the Aussie darling has sold her stellar New York abode for a cool $16 million.

Having owned the three-bedder since 2003, the address is within a famed Richard Meier-designed building in the West Village and features sweeping views across New York harbour.

It was placed on the rental market in 2010 for a whopping $45,000 a month.

Kidman and husband Keith Urban - who spend most of the year in Nashville - also own another apartment in the Big Apple that they bought early last year for $10 million, which includes car lifts for same-floor garages.

Last month the couple bought the adjoining apartment to their home here on the 21st floor of a block in Milsons Point for a reported $7 million.

By joining them together, Kidman - a known lover of water views - is improving her views of the Harbour Bridge.

She bought the original apartment from Celebrity Apprentice star Mark Bouris in 2005 for $4.75 million.

Kidman owns a more modest third apartment in the same building but on the 19th floor, according to Property Observer. Kidman will next play Grace Kelly in Grace Of Monaco, but following that role has no immediate acting commitments.

Urban is likely to spend at least a few months Down Under early next year, with a second season of The Voice all but certain to go ahead and all four coaches likely to return to the show.
