The actress landed the coveted role playing Princess Grace of Monaco.

Nicole Kidman is to take the lead in Grace of Monaco, a new film chronicling the life of actress turned Princess Grace Kelly.

The film, which is being made by an independent company, will focus on the time around the 1962 tax issues faced in the country which saw them clash with France, as well as looking at how her life as a princess was so much different to what she was used to as an actress.

The film will be directed by La Vie En Rose helmer, Olivier Dahan on a 15 million budget, which will be financed by Pierre-Ange Le Pogam. The role for Kidman is said to be one of the most coveted in recent cinema history, and the Aussie had to fight off many other actresses to land the part.

The role is another in a long line the actress has coming up, including The Paperboy, Stoker and opposite Colin Firth in The Railway Man.
