Nicole Kidman's 'Stoker' premieres at Belcourt Theatre

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -

The latest Nicole Kidman flick is now playing at Belcourt Theatre.

The Belcourt Theatre is the only local theater to show "Stoker."

The dark, suspenseful, Hitchcock-style movie is about a teenage girl dealing with the loss of her father.

Kidman plays Evelyn "Evie" Stoker, mother to the teen. She joins a relatively unknown cast and crew, including Mia Wasikowska, who portrays India Stoker, and Matthew Goode, who portrays Charles Stoker.

The film marks director Park Chan-Wook's first English language movie.

"I love supporting filmmakers that who are, you know, they sort of have their own kind of way of expressing themselves," said Kidman.

Though the players may be unknown, local movie-goers may find the scenery very familiar.

"There's some shots at Cheekwood. A lot of it is shot at a particular house that I haven't seen, but a lot of people know where it is. Hillsboro High School has a cameo," said Cindy Wall, director of marketing for Belcourt Theatre.

Kidman was instrumental in getting the movie made in Nashville, while Belcourt management was, in turn, instrumental in getting the movie shown in town.

"When we see movies that we think are worth showing and that Nashville audiences will love and that we love, we go after those movies. And we went after this movie, so we're really proud to have it on our screen," Wall said.

As part of the opening weekend celebration, the theater will hold a raffle for an Elie Saab dress worn by Kidman in the movie.

"The folks who made the movie very kindly sent it to us as a way, just a little tease to encourage people to come out for opening weekend," said Wall.

"Stoker" runs Friday, March 22 through Sunday, March 31 at Belcourt Theatre.

Tickets start at $7.75.
