Did Scientologists turn Isabella and Connor Cruise against Nicole Kidman?

A controversial new article in Vanity Fair alleges that members of the Church of Scientology turned Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's adopted kids Bella and Connor against their mother following the couple's divorce in 2001.

The article claims that Cruise's fellow Scientologists labelled Kidman a 'Suppressive Person (SP)' following the breakup, and the children were taught that she was 'spiritually toxic' and should be avoided.

'The central problem [in the marriage] was Nicole did not want to deal with Scientology,' former high-ranking Scientologist Marty Rathbun told Vanity Fair, while John Brousseau, a former Scientologist who was once bodyguard and brother-in-law to church leader David Miscavige, said that children Bella and Connor, who were eight and six years old at the time of Cruise and Kidman's divorce, were instructed to 'reject' Nicole.

The article also alleges that during Bella and Connor's home schooling lessons they were taught how to recognise an 'SP' and even took a course on the subject. Brousseau told VF: '[Bella and Connor] whispered to me, "J.B., Nicole is an S.P.! Our mom's an S.P. - we hate going and seeing her."'

Kidman, who was with Cruise for 11 years before their split, became a vilified figure in the Scientology Church, according to Brousseau, who claims that she was 'hated' by Scientologists and that films starring the actress couldn't be mentioned.

The VF article also alleges that Tom Cruise 'auditioned' women when he was looking for a new wife, and that Katie Holmes, whom he has recently divorced, wasn't his first choice in a mate since she wasn't a Scientologist already.

The Church of Scientology has labelled the entire story as 'hogwash,' and denied that Connor and Bella were ever instructed on 'SPs' or that Kidman was considered a 'Suppressive Person.'

The Church also denies claims that senior level officials 'auditioned' prospective brides for Tom Cruise, saying:

'There was no project, secret or otherwise, ever conducted by the Church to find a bride (audition or otherwise) for any member of the Church. Never. The allegation and entire premise of the Vanity Fair article is totally false.'

Tom Cruise's spokesman also dismissed the article as untrue, saying: 'Lies in a different font are still lies - designed to sell magazines.'

Connor, now 17, moonlights as a DJ, while Isabella, 19, was most recently rumoured to be considering joining high-level Scientologist group, Sea Org.
