Nicole Kidman for Broadway drama?

Nicole Kidman is apparently in talks to return to the stage in a Broadway production of Terence Rattigan's play After The Dance.

The Oscar-winning actress has not appeared in the theatre since her stage debut in the West End and on Broadway in David Hare's The Blue Room, directed by Sam Mendes, in 1998.

Nicole, 44, is now in negotiations to star in Rattigan's drama as the tragic Joan Scott-Fowler, whose husband leaves her for a younger woman, The Daily Mail reports.

The play - which won plaudits for its run at London's National Theatre in 2010 with acclaimed theatre actress Nancy Carroll as Joan, and Benedict Cumberbatch as her novelist husband David - is being lined up to run on Broadway in the spring or autumn next year.

After The Dance shows how the couple - who married on a whim in the Roaring 20s and not for love - find themselves struggling with repressed emotion when another woman enters the picture years later.

Nicole has apparently been keen to find another stage project after Sweet Bird Of Youth, in which she was to play Alexandra Del Lago, opposite James Franco, was postponed.

She is next set to appear opposite Colin Firth and Jeremy Irvine in World War II drama The Railway Man.
