Usually when we see Nicole Kidman on a red carpet, were hit with some envy over her statuesque figure, pretty hair and hot husband. But needless to say, seeing her in the outfit she wore Saturday to Derby Day in Melbourne, Australia, did not instill such feelings.
Kidman donned a LWren Scott creation for the big race, complete with an over-the-top hat by milliner Stephen Jones. And while we were ready to rag on the outfit a bit, upon closer inspection, we realized it was inspired by Eliza Doolittles (Audrey Hepburn) famous race ensemble in My Fair Lady one of our all-time favorite films.
Additionally, the dress was created by Scott as part of Livia Firths (yep, Colins wife) Green Carpet Challenge, which tasks designers with making event-worthy gowns from sustainable, eco-friendly materials. Kidmans dress was made with end-of-line British lace, therefore supporting the remnants of a traditional fabric industry and organic silk, according to a release.
Using all British fabrics, we wanted to prove that green and eco can be glamorous, Scott said in the release. But then again, what wouldnt be on Ms. Kidman?
While Kidman does look like shes a few days late for Halloween, we suppose her inspiration and her purpose are both admirable in our book.Tell us: How do you really feel about Kidmans ensemble?
