Tom Hanks, Billy Crystal, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and others remember Nora Ephron

Nora Ephron not only left a mark on the fans of her movies, but also on those she worked with. Since her death was revealed Tuesday night at the age of 71, tributes have started pouring in from those who starred in her films and worked with her.

In an email to The New York Times, Meryl Streep, who starred in Ephrons final film, 2009s Julie & Julia, recalled her longtime friend. Nora just looked at every situation and cocked her head and thought, Hmmmm, how can I make this more fun? Streep wrote.

You could call on her for anything: doctors, restaurants, recipes, speeches, or just a few jokes, and we all did it, constantly. She was an expert in all the departments of living well, Streep added.

Billy Crystal, who starred with Meg Ryan in When Harry Met Sally..., which was written by Ephron, said in a statement, I am very sad to learn of Nora's passing...She was a brilliant writer and humorist. Being her Harry to Meg's Sally will always have a special place in my heart. I was very lucky to get to say her words.

Tom Hanks, worked with Ephron on Sleepless in Seattle and Youve Got Mail, and his wife, Rita Wilson, told E! News in a statement, Nora Ephron was a journalist/artist who knew what was important to know; how things really worked, what was worthwhile, who was fascinating and why...At a dinner table and on a film set she lifted us all with wisdom and wit mixed with love for us and love for life. Rita and I are so very sad to lose our friend who brought so much joy to all who were lucky
enough to know her...

Nicole Kidman starred in Ephrons film adaptation of Bewitched and said that Ephron was a joy to be around.

"She was so smart, warm and funny. I am so grateful that she was my friend and we had the opportunity to work together. My thoughts and love are with her family at this time. I will never forget the dinners, games and laughter we all shared, Kidman added.

Several other celebrities paid tribute on Twitter, including Steve Martin, who starred in Ephrons Mixed Nuts. He wrote, She was the one you wanted to read, to listen to, to be in the company of. Nora Ephron. Incomparable wit; delightful friend. Sadness reigns.

Ephron died on Tuesday of pneumonia caused by acute myeloid leukemia, her son Jacob Bernstein told The New York Times.
